The MEO Arena is a multifunctional indoor stadium built in Lisbon for the 1998 World Expo. It has a seating capacity of 20,000 and is one of the largest indoor arenas in Europe.
Over its long and diverse history, this venue—originally known as Pavilhão da Utopia and later renamed Pavilhão Atlântico, Altice Arena, and currently MEO Arena—has hosted a wide variety of events, both musical and sporting. Notable examples include the Eurovision Song Contest held in May 2018 and the MTV Europe Music Awards. In addition, it has welcomed dozens upon dozens of concerts by world-renowned artists and bands such as Rihanna, Adele, Beyoncé, Lady Gaga, Supertramp, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Metallica, Ricky Martin, Robbie Williams, and many others.
Among the sports events, highlights include the IAAF World Indoor Championships in Athletics and the IHF World Men's Handball Championship. It was also the venue for the Indoor Trial World Championship, with the 2006 edition being one of the most memorable to date.
